On May 13, 2026, Amazon retired the standalone "Rufus" brand and folded its product-research capabilities into a unified assistant alongside Alexa+ personalization, after Rufus had helped over 300 million customers research, compare, and buy products in 2025. Trained on Amazon's product catalog, customer reviews, Q&A data, and web information, it answers product-specific questions, suggests items based on described needs, and compares options side by side. Newer capabilities include AI-generated shopping guides, extended price-history views (30/90/365-day), price-drop alerts, and optional automated purchasing when a target price is hit. It is completely free for all signed-in Amazon customers — no Prime membership, Echo device, or Alexa app required — accessible via the Amazon Shopping app, amazon.com, and Echo Show devices. It remains one of the most commercially significant AI assistant deployments globally, given Amazon's scale with over a billion products and hundreds of millions of active customers.
