## AI Therapist Matching

When signing up, BetterHelp's algorithm processes your assessment responses — what brings you to therapy, communication preferences (prefer texting vs. video), therapist gender preference, areas of expertise needed — and surfaces 3-5 therapist matches within 24 hours.

The matching system draws on therapist profiles: credentials, specialties (anxiety, trauma, relationships, LGBTQ+, grief, addiction), communication styles, and current client load. If you don't connect with the matched therapist, you can switch at any time at no cost.

## Communication Modes

BetterHelp provides four ways to engage with your therapist: messaging (asynchronous text, available 24/7), live chat sessions, phone calls, and video sessions. Most plans include one live session per week plus unlimited messaging between sessions.

## Therapist Credentials

All BetterHelp therapists are licensed professionals: licensed professional counselors (LPC), licensed clinical social workers (LCSW), licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFT), and licensed psychologists (PhD, PsyD). Credentials are verified during the therapist vetting process.

## Specialized Therapy
