Power BI Copilot brings generative AI to Microsoft's business intelligence platform, making data analysis accessible to the millions of business users who need insights but lack data analysis skills.

## Natural Language to Reports

Users can describe what they want to see and Copilot builds it. "Show me monthly revenue by region compared to last year with a trend line" — Copilot selects the right chart type, applies the right filters, and builds the visualization. Non-technical business users can self-serve analysis without depending on data teams.

## DAX Measure Generation

DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) is Power BI's calculation language — powerful but complex. Copilot can write DAX measures from natural language descriptions: "Calculate 12-month rolling average of sales excluding returns." It also explains existing DAX measures, debugs errors, and suggests optimizations. This dramatically reduces the DAX expertise required to build sophisticated calculations.

## Narrative Summaries

Copilot generates AI-written narrative summaries of dashboards — automatically identifying trends, anomalies, and key takeaways from the data. Instead of executives staring at charts, they receive written summaries: "Revenue grew 12% MoM driven by EMEA. Gross margin declined 2pp due to supply chain costs. Three customer segments declined — mid-market manufacturing is the largest at -18%."

## Report Builder Assistance

Copilot assists throughout report building: suggesting which fields to use for a given analysis, recommending relevant charts, auto-generating titles and descriptions, and even drafting entire report layouts from a description of business requirements.

## Integration with Microsoft Fabric

Power BI Copilot integrates with Microsoft Fabric's data lakehouse, SQL analytics, and data science capabilities. Copilot can query across the entire Fabric estate, not just Power BI datasets.
