Yummly is one of the largest recipe platforms on the internet, with 2M+ recipes and an AI recommendation engine that learns individual food preferences. Acquired by Whirlpool in 2017, Yummly has evolved from a recipe search engine into a personalized cooking assistant.

## Personalization Engine

Yummly's core differentiator is taste-based personalization. During onboarding, users specify dietary restrictions (gluten-free, vegan, kosher, halal), allergies, cuisine preferences, and skill level. The AI then filters and ranks all 2M+ recipes to show only what's relevant.

As users cook recipes and rate them (or skip them), the recommendation engine refines further. Over time, Yummly becomes a personalized recipe feed rather than a generic search engine.

## Smart Kitchen Integration

Yummly connects to Whirlpool's smart appliance ecosystem (Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag ovens with built-in WiFi). When connected, Yummly can preheat your oven to the correct temperature before you start cooking and send recipe-specific settings directly to appliances.

## Recipe Features

Each recipe includes step-by-step instructions, scaling for different serving sizes, ingredient shopping lists, and estimated nutrition information. Video-guided recipes are available for many popular dishes.

## Meal Planning

The meal planning feature populates a weekly calendar with personalized recipe suggestions, then generates a consolidated shopping list from the selected recipes.
