Magnific AI

Magnific AI represents a different approach to image upscaling than traditional tools: instead of sharpening or interpolating existing pixels, it uses a diffusion model to reimagine what the image would look like at higher resolution, generating new detail in the process.

How Magnific Differs from Traditional Upscalers

Traditional upscaling (bicubic, Lanczos) and even earlier AI upscalers (ESRGAN, Real-ESRGAN) work by enhancing existing pixels. They can remove jagged edges and add some sharpness, but they can't create detail that wasn't captured.

Magnific uses a diffusion model conditioned on the input image. Given a low-resolution source, it generates a high-resolution version that:

• Is visually consistent with the source
• Contains realistic, coherent fine detail
• Adds texture (skin pores, fabric weave, hair strands) that wasn't in the original
• Maintains the lighting, composition, and character of the original image

This is called "hallucinating detail" — the AI is making informed guesses about what fine detail should look like, based on the content type.

Creativity Slider

Magnific's key control is the Creativity slider (0-10):

• 0 — stays faithful to the original; minimal detail generation; closest to traditional upscaling
• 5 — balanced enhancement; adds texture while maintaining fidelity
• 10 — significant reimagination; may change textures substantially; most appropriate for artistic use

This gives users control over how much the AI departs from the source.

Resolution Scaling

Magnific supports upscaling from as low as 32×32 pixels to outputs up to:

• 2× (minimum enhancement)
• 4×
• 8×
• 16× (maximum; 512×512 input → 8192×8192 output)

16× upscaling produces extraordinary detail from very small sources, but requires more processing time.
